And some of them will increase a lot the firepower of the units in berget. I've been at only one (superb) event, but for my point of wiew the main problem of the artillery was not due to the hard mechanics, but instead to the lack of gamemasters to deploy the barrage when ordered by the commanders.

So a small amount of those mortars (maybe with a limited number of rounds per day) given at company or even platoon level will integrate the "normal" berget artillery to provide substancial firepower when and where needed without having to wait half an hour (and suffer heavy losses) to make the poor berget people run back and forth all the area.

About the KISS principle (very nice acronym @Jöntti :D ) I think that some istruction to the mortar's crew (as it is done with the engineers) and a general rule for all (about the kill radious of the shell) will be more than adequate.
