I agree with much that has been said here. Think of all the training your will get from patrolling with a 10kg backpack. Check out some of the kit you may need to carry as a ranger.

Just remember guys not to spray DEET -based repellent straight into gore-tex or similar fabrics. The stuff is so heavy it melts the gore-tex clothes.
