No problem what so ever. There was alot of them, but they were gentle and made us feel welcome.

A lot of smoke from the fire and no problems.

I was eaten alive, especially when out in the field. What did you guys do to keep them away? I used heavy amounts of bug-repellent several times a day, but they kept coming.

As long as they respected my personal integrity, we had no problem what so ever with each other.
It was a mutual agreement and a win/win situation ;)
(Along with some bug spray and face nets)

With all the talk about the mosquitos before the game it was a pleasant surprise that there were hardly any present (in comparison to the mosquito level in Oulu, my home town).

Only when you were out in the woods ouit from wind they came, and at those times repellants worked fine =)

I'm mostly worried that the HUGE amount of djungelolja I put on could be hazardous for my health. Other than that, they generally kept themselves away, exept when I was on guard duty.
I discovered that I had placed myself in a swampy area with A LOT of them, so some got through...

It seems that we were in the wrong places (NAF 5th Inf HQ / Swamp) most of the time, I killed about 300 of them but I was stung half that number myself.. insect repellent and the mosquito net worked, but they stung me about 100 times through my desert DPM lightweight trousers :?

Compared to german mosquitos they are in far greater numbers, far more agressive and can sting through clothes, but I'm happy that the stings are not so irritating as the german ones. German mosquitos made my entire upper arm and half of my upper leg swolen :?

I'll stay in the city the entire week :P

1. Offcourse there was alot of mosquitos! it rained and there was swamps. and repellant works as long as your not sweating. but all in all the mosqitos where not a big problem for me..

2. ANTS! fucking ants.... our tent was full of black ants. they where a bigger problem for us.

I lost a lot of blood to those bloodsuckers!!
We sprayed DEET 50% but these guys kept on going anyway.

But at least it doesnt itch as much as the moscitos in the Netherlands.

I was not biten a lot due to mosquito net (when on post - or being still in the field) combined with spray-on mosquito repellent on other occations.

tips: pref. bonnie hat (cap might work too) and mosquito net over that - combined with spray MyggA (swe: mosquito Alpha).

I have bites, but I don't think all are from mosquitoes, ants might have been a problem as well - but these guys you never see :)

I still have some itchy stings, but all in all they weren't that bad.
Like the skeeters in Norther Norway, these guys were slow and dozy, and despite their numbers, their stings aren't really that bad.

I find southern-european skeeters to be a lot worse.

Good tip about repellents:
spray on your hands and then rub it on; don't spray directly on you from a distance. This way you get more of it on your skin and it actually helps.
You should also put some on your clothes, like around the neck and on your headgear.

I found by wearing ober-lix's socks all week and drying them by the use of the camp fire i smelt bed enough to drive them away.
