An external antenna must have the correct Standing Wave Ratio for your radio. You will have to look for one that is suited for the Mhz anf Frequencies of your radio. An incorrect antenna will create electronic feedback and damage your radio. To find a suitable antenna, have a search in the net.

You may also try using any suitable long (40-50 cm) non-folding antenna (tons of them are on Ebay, e.g. here) and to move it to your back with this relocation cable: http://www.tacticalcommandstore.com/m-a-s-t.aspx

If you get one of those babies in the right Mhz/Frequencies, you might as well keep the one on your radio. It´s just an other "Rubber Duck" (coiled) antenna.

We used theese in the marines, and they were really practical.
While on march the antenna would be folded like in the picture and was really elastic so it didn't get tangled while moveing in the terrain, and while stationarey we folded it up and got a better reseption to HQ.

I tought that if I could get a hand on theese for my Puxing, it might help with the damn terrain on Berget, but as I said, I can't seem to finde any version of this elastc metal folding antenna. :(

For instance, I carry my radio (Yaesu VX-7) on the left shoulder in order to quickly switch between channels. In this situation a 50 cm antenna wobbling in front of my face is a bit... disturbing.

With the MAST I move the antenna on my back and have only a radio in front of me - profit. In turn, the 50 cm dual mode NAGOYA antenna has much better sensitivity than the "rubber duck" that was supplied along with the radio.
