Dutch law (sort of) approves airsoft!

Post by RJay » 23 Feb 2011, 02:53

Break in the law! On the 16th of feb our parlement told the lawmakers to change the gun law to allow replica's (fake ones) of catagorie 1 weapons (guns, rifles and such)

Hopefully by the end of may it will be approved by parlement and go into effect.

We'll see a lot of happy dutchman running around!

Changing the Dutch gun law will take years my friend. A regular law change can take 2 years or longer, I have not seen any indication that this law change will go any faster. Especially because of the nature of this topic there will be a lot of resistance.

On a side note, the ruling party's have put in a request to investigate the possibilities of a change not said that a change needed to be done. The request was to allow the keeping of airsoft replica's at home not to legalise the sport in the Netherlands. That is a big difference.

But I would be be happy to have my replica's at home, that would make maintenance much easier.

Hopefully I am wrong on this one.

I looked at the debat and the minister of justice seems to be willing to change the law towards replica catagory 1 weapons (rifles and such) by the end of the year.

It will probably be implemented the same way as in the UK with registered fire arms and most definelty vaults to keep the rifle and magazines in.

Looks like a very exciting time is coming!

The debate was actually about specific knifes and about the banning of these. They will be banned like they are banned in more countries.

During this debate several members of the parliament also asked questions about airsoft weapons and the possibility of some way to legalize these in our country.

The person answering all questions was state secretary of security and justice Fred Teeven (not the minister of Justice)
Answering about airsoft, he said he would make sure that the possession of airsoft weapons would be legal before the end of this year.
The weapons would most probably go from Cat I to Cat III. In the new case this would mean we would have to acquire a specific permit and store the airsoft weapons in weapons lockers. (But exactly how the rule will be filled would be pure speculation) Comparison to the UK or any other law in any other country is not very likely at this point in time.
The promise is made!!! Before the end of the year we will all be driving our weapons to Holland and we can clean them and cherish them and upgrade them and pimp them in our own homes :D And that's where it counts!

YEAH!!!

Just one small thing about the law in general:
Creating a new law would indeed take about 2 tot 3 years. This specific adjustment of the Dutch weapons law will not take that long because it is just a (minor) adjustment, not a complete new law.

Check the latest news (unfortunately only in Dutch) at www.nabv.nl

The Justice Department promissed to make airsoft possible in 2011 in Holland.

The Justice Department is now considering new legislation which should be in effect even this year. Of course the NABV is on top of this.

The ownership and possession of airsoft guns is illegal in the Netherlands?

Uh.. sounds crazy. While at the same time in Finland I think we have the second highest firearms per capita ratio after the US, not to mention airsoft guns then. Both EU countries, and apparently very different rules then. Weird. I hope they get it passed quick for you guys. It's nasty when bureaucrats try to limit the freedom of people to the extent of dictating what you can have as your private property and as your perfectly good hobby =(
