Mobile phones worked great, I had 4G connection every where I went on the game area. Using a Finnish company called Sonera which is the same as Telia.

The repeater in the GCT base was not plugged in by the way... atleast thats what my radio expert said.

What makes this area so good is the phone / 4g access.

Radio comms from GCT base to the rest of the area was bad due to the high ridgeline just west of the base.

My main line of communication with base as company commander was my phone, as the puxin radios we get from berget dont have the range we need.
But overall good phone cover in the game area.

Radio reception was generally fucked, and pretty much no-one knew how to operate the repeaters.

Some form of briefing would be nice on that.

Maybe a "Repeaters and Puxings for Dummies" post on the forums? Sticky it and link it to somewhere visible like the website?

much better then last year... last year we could use Radios for about 500m, then they didnt worked (as Border Police). The only ones that worked last year were puxxings.

This year we had less Problems, contacting GCT HQ vorm Krasnovo for example.

Interesting. I had 4G on most of the game area with Telia...

For years, 6mm has used radio strictly as a intra-platoon fire net. Occasionally when the whole batalion operated together, we have a command net down to company XO and special platoons.

The norm is GSM for HQ down to platoons and special squads/teams.

WhatsApp group chat was used this year and was found to be rather good, but we will go for a better solution next year.

I think radios worked decent this year. A few of us upgraded the antennas for our Puxings, and the longest connection we had was from CP 11 to Krasnovo, which is decent imo. It was however a one way connection, as the receiver did not upgrade his antenna, solid proof that the antenna swap actually improved something. Luckily we had people up at CP 10 who could forward the message.

So radios will be what you make it. Your Cobra PMR radio won't work over the hills with dense forest. Puxings are hardly the best you can get, still if you spend some more on them they can be decent radios.

+1 on that, we had the same scenario at HQ, being able to recieve from Krasnovo with both improvised 3m whip antenna or a standard forrest antenna. But sending was a problem when the reciever only had a standard antenna. Forrest antennas cost like 20€ or something, so no big investment...
