Revise the "knife rule"?

Post by NIN » 10 Nov 2016, 15:30

]Regardless of polling result a knifekill should always be performed with your hand and nothing else!

Some players have written about the "knife rule". Saying that if you actually dont have a knife you should not be able to run around performing knifekills. And since we dont want people running around with rubber knives that could be confused with the real deal and get into fights as a result we suggest that.

We change the rule so you in order to be able to perform a knifekill have to keep an orange rubber or plastic knife (12cm minimum) on your person. When someone has been knifekilled they have to be shown this dummy in order for the kill to stand. You could make this dummy weapon yourself or we could have some to be sold in the shop. The dummies have to be inspected and approved at checkin if you decide to make your own.

So if I kill a person silently and this is not registered by the knifed player team, I need to take more time (+ create unwanted extra movement) to actually show a knife to someone to confirm?

Nah. The hand will do fine. It's a simulation and I doubt anyone in RL situations wouldn't bring a knife along. Knife is life after all.

I hope it will not be necessary to show a rubberknife. I was always a fan of your rules about the knifekills.

What we did: We printed a picture if a knife in the size of a playing card, which we hold, while using "knifekills" why not change the rule to this?

I have no problem with the knife rules as they are. I'm happy to be knifed and to knife this way.

Personally I am in favor of this rule. If I were let's say I am wounded or someone sneakes behind me and performs a knifekill I wouldn't bother to check the knife. I guess rule would be good for civilians and larpers, I would totally check the knife if civilian or prisoner would shank me.

If someone pulls out a real knife on me, i can not guarantee for their safety...

For the idea if the knifecard, its all about the fact, that if we are searched, thei can find "the knife" and disarm us. If somebody just carried a real knife, we ignored it while searching amd jist told the prisoner, we found the imaginary ingameknife and it was all good.

Why everyone is so agressive thise days?
I clearly wrote "knife on your belt". If rules will need to show that you posess knife, what difference will it make i show rubber dildo, knofe on my belt or my webbing?

Inside a LARP area like the village we have separate rules that you can use LARP weapons and you should be aware of this. We have a rule about players never having knives on their person visible, instead it should be neatly tucked away inside your pack.

You wrote "can this be shown", i thought it would be like, you pull the knife out of the belt to show it during a knifekill, and with this i will not deal... But just have it on your belt, i could life with this.

Well if we start to show knives from our gear to be able to knife kill people it will make the knife kill quite useless. Usually you need knife kill for taking out wounded enemies or stealthly eliminate players. If you start to speak around like "Knife kill and here is my knife on my belt" the stealth factor is long gone.

If you want to revise the rule I would suggest you need to have a rubber knife (orange or however) to perform the knife kill and you have to perform it carefully so that you won't hurt anyone. Otherwise I see no idea just showing the knife from your belt. If you are seeking realism you probably would need to take the knife from your gear to knife somebody with it what the rubber knife or boffer would replicate. Otherwise I see no point in revising the knife kill rule if you aren't really trying to move it towards larp or realism. Knife kill performed with hand is good enough.

I expect everybody who is entering a scandinavian forest will carry at least a knife and a firestarter.
So if someone is performing a knifekill with his hand I don't need to see his knife.
I just except the fact of being killed.

If you don't need any weapon to knife kill, you can do it after being searched and handcuffed. It has happened before in Berget that civilian in the prison just started knifekilling guards, with hands tied.
Every handshake is a risk, if just words "knife kill" will eliminate you. If you need to have some kind of "weapon" in your other hand, be it airsoft gun or orange rubber knife or any other rule specified object while you use your hand to touch the opponent (not the knife holding hand, but the empty one) the enemy has possibility to see that you are armed and dangerous.
Knife kills between "soldiers" is not the problem with current rules. Knife kills between civilians is the problem.
