SUV radiator protection

Post by Yakuza_Dragon » 09 Sep 2015, 23:24

Hey guys.

I'm about to use SUV on in-country MILSIM event.

I know that BB's might cause damage to windshields, mirrors, paint and body dints.

But mostly I'm scared of BB hitting the front and going all the way to the engine cooling radiator.

Any ideas on that?
How do you protect your radiator?

Since covering it up would interfere with the cooling ability which is important since we experience 30 to 40 degrees Celsius here.

Thank you.

I would not see a bb damaging a car radiator but if you are afraid then just use some mesh for pritection

I'm thinking that you could butcher an IKEA mesh-trash can and use that to cover it up?

cover it from the front with plexi or even mdf, but put an electric fan on the inside to give better cooling, a SPAL fan cost ~50€ and is way cheaper than buying a new radiator.

Please, dont use mdf/plywood ect for armor.

For example, use:

for radiator protection. The perforation is 5mm!

Very cheap and easy to fit.

^ What this man says. Putting compact materials in front of your radiator is like asking for trouble. You'd want the air to flow through to your radiator.

Buy an aluminum perforated mesh grill sheet, but remember to check the size of the holes. Those sheets are easily modified to fit any car type.

All cars have a fan behind the radiator, if the temp starts to build the fan will start.
The air will flow through the radiator even if you put something in front of it, in most cars the air can go from the sides and from under the car. In a modern Corvette for ex the air comes from under the car and passes the radiator.

We have run this sulution for 4 years now, no problems.
