One thing you could do is to spend most of the car trip home from Berget discussing what could be done better about the rain and then (try to) start up a business based on the ideas that arose during that discussion:

http://www.drycraft.com

(We're far from ready to start selling stuff yet but there are some pretty nifty ideas that we are going to try out.)

On another note: If it rains and you have managed to secure your own sleeping place and gear then put all your remaining energy into helping your comrades!

Okay, you have been able to secure your tent avoiding being flushed away. What you should have with you is a rain poncho. Get one with a hood, they are not expensive from an army store. You should have an extra pair of dry socks and even an extra pair of boots if your others are socked through. Do not walk about with socked through boots and wet feet and socks. You are inviting trench foot ! That will not only spoil your day. :(
What your AEGs are concerned, prepare them with Balisto or weapons oil and they should stand up to it. One more thing, don´t run around with wet hair for any length of time - you will surely get a nasty cold. Have something on your head, that will stand up to the rain.

If possible, Berget should provide some tents for drying clothes. Maybe 1 heated tent pr company?

Combine a drynig and wounded tent.
Tents heated with fires need someone to watch the fire. So anyone wounded should tend to the fire so he again may have a purpose in life :P

@ Last year we brought our own telt to store kit out of the rain. We secured a stove and it became a drying tent for the whole batalion to enjoy.

Honestly.. iif i'm going hiking and there is a chance of rain, i bring a extra pair of socks and rainproof gear. Even if you're playing in your dessert kit you're alowed to wear "black" boots, and i know you'll be able to find goretex and ponchos in dessert cammies. Come prepared.

Thats what good operators do, they adapt.

Thank God, there is the membrane suit in Multicam and color matching goretex boots. BTW, last season I tried membrane socks from SealSkinz - on one game I several times disembarked from the boat jumping to the knee-deep water - feet inside the socks were dry.

Speaking about normal use, i.e. wearing them in relatively dry conditions or simply in wet weather - they do not isolate the foot but use the membrane to let it breath. Ultimately, the perspiration is not higher than wearing the regular military boot with thick cushion socks in warm weather.

If water goes inside the socks over the top, like standing for some time in the water deeper than your knees, sooner or later the water will be inside the socks and it will be hard to quickly evaporate it through the pores of the membrane. I have the SeaSkinz Waterblocker socks that can boast of water-sealing elastic cuff, it squeezes the leg and prevents pouring the water from the top, but after some time of stay in the water it will start leaking too.

Well, here's an idea for you guys as well...this won't keep you dry during the day but at least you won't wake up soaking wet like I did last year...bad way to start a day. My sleepbag was in a puddle of water because I rolled over against the side of the tent during the night while it rained...DOH!!! This thing is way over-priced in my opinion but it looks practical and maybe a cheaper version could be found somewhere.

skinner,

How is it with the sealskinz socks, do they cause blisters? I remembered that I have a pair of them but have never used them in rigorous activities, partly because they are fairly thick and feel like they might cause hotspots in the longer run.

Otherwise when it comes to Berget, consider spare boots. No membrane boot protects you from situations when you decide to cross a waist-deep ditch, and if it is hot you might want to use lighter non-membrane boot anyway. My boots took literally days to completely dry, there is no way you can get them dried overnight in a tent if you only have a single pair.
It was a minor climax on Fri morning when I pulled on a dry pair of goretex boots and popped open a MRE heated with a chemical heater.

For a tent heater, it is worth checking out ones running on petroleum or some other liquid fuel. They run for hours on a single refill. No need to secure dry wood for the stove, either.

edit: yeah, I will not leave for Sweden without a bivy bag anymore. I can take soaking wet clothes but a wet sleeping bag is really, really nasty: http://bit.ly/eZolE6
