as an objective marker it's awesome, but there's something about being shot with nerf balls that's just not as intimidating as a fireworks display

I see a lot of downsides on this. first of all there is the price issue. then the terrain isn't the best for bringing guns in place and to shoot over hills. transporting the things is a pain in the butt (believe me... we did this all the time at B9 ) and the last thing: most of us are not taught how to calculate the parameters to fire a projectile in indirect fire...
Our gun last year was a pretty looking prop, but most of the time we were ambushed while transporting it. So I think that there is no need for such expensive guns

Actually one of those nerf balls (that has whistles in it) have been thrown at me. And I can tell you that when it comes from high up and in surprise it definitely is intimidating, it actually sounds like bombs where being dropped on you.vinni wrote:as an objective marker it's awesome, but there's something about being shot with nerf balls that's just not as intimidating as a fireworks display
I think that idea could work better if it was used as a mortar and not as howitzer. Since it clearly doesn't have the couple kilometers of needed range. I think it could be transported around more easily and operating it would be propably also easier. And we could still keep the fireworks artillery, since it can shoot anywhere. But you actually would need to bring the mortars where the battle is and use it as indirect fire support.
Edit. Ofcourse aiming would still probably be hard without any training.

that would overcomplicate the whole artillery system (ask Waldo, he's an expert on this matter)
But that doesn't mean it would be unfit for BE games. As an objective that requires people to man it and spend time with the artillery instead of just standing around mock artillery pieces doing zilch would be a rather nice RP-addition (not to mention the increasing suspense of hearing shells whine overhead).
And if fitted with an BAVS transmitter, it would make for a great AT gun

I completely agree with you Dimori, some of these mortars used at company or even platoon level will be great; it will be hard to put an effective barrage on target without training but I think it will add a lot of firepower and effectivness to the men in the field, without the terrible waste of time in calling normal fireworks artillery.Dimori wrote: I think that idea could work better if it was used as a mortar and not as howitzer. Last year on the last day (if I remember well) we Poldavian had to wait for about 1 hour near the bunker for the gamemasters to come to blow the NAF out
So these mortars will be a perfect thing to see on next berget

I saw this video this noon and was pretty amazed and istantly thought about if BE could adept it, because of the exceptional low price and the awesome effectDimori wrote:Here's something that could be used as mortars.

The thing that bothers me is that shure wouldn't be a nice feeling to get hit by the grenade. in the retailers description they say that it wouldn't hurt to get hit; but i heared a lot that airsoft doesn't hurt either and i've seen people got their teeth shot out or their cheeks punctuated. What I want to say with this is that i think that it is not dangerous in general, but the chaos factor can not be calculated...

There is another promo video from echo1 for this mortar. they say you should realy wear a helmet when playing with this, because it can knock you out, when it hits your head. the shell has a hard point which is only covered with a thin rubber bumper, so I assume that this would be much more unplesant than a nerf rocket...

Just my two cents:
Why we should try to do Berget rules/game mechanics harder when even the rules/mechanic we have now are not working 100% ingame? I know it would be cool to have all kind of stuff in Berget, but when we have +1000 players, KISS (keep it stupid simple) should be the priority. There is a lot of smaller games where we can use all kind of game mechanics without problems.
